Local baseball fans see bright future

A promising season for the Dodgers and Angels ended disappointingly and abruptly this week, leaving local baseball fans with a couple of real-world lessons.

One lesson is that problems can't always be fixed by throwing money at them - a favorite truism of fiscal conservatives in many walks of life. The ballclubs committed hundreds of millions of dollars to acquiring star players, the Angels getting Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson last winter and the Dodgers adding Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett during the season. But both teams narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs.

Another lesson is that it is possible to perceive progress even if results don't materialize as quickly as hoped - something that supporters of President Obama and congressional incumbents like to point out in the context of economic recovery. The Dodgers and Angels were more promising, entertaining teams at the end of this season than they were a year earlier, although neither is going to the World Series.

In the bittersweet baseball cliche "wait till next year," the "sweet" side stands out right now.

The Dodgers fans should be optimistic about the future. The franchise's well-heeled new owners, who took over from Frank McCourt last spring, have backed up their promise to use their resources to try to improve the lineup. Gonzalez, 30, Matt Kemp, 28, and pitcher Clayton Kershaw, 24, are players to build a winner around; given more time, the talent should jell.

Angels fans might feel more let down than Dodgers fans by how the season turned out, since the Anaheim team was expected to contend for the pennant. But they too have much to look forward to - namely many years of Mike Trout, the 21-year-old outfielder who some already call the best player in the sport.

Baseball fans divide a year into two halves: the season and the offseason. In Southern California, a tantalizing season just ended and an offseason of anticipation now begins.

If only the real world gave people as much cause for optimism as L.A.'s ballclubs do.

Attracting Abundance | Self Help Made Simple

Stress about the lack of money and guess what you?re going to attract? That?s right, lack of money.

So I know what not to do, but what am I supposed to do if I just don?t have the money? Be grateful for what you do have in your life. Food, shelter, family, friends, and love even. Really feel the gratitude for these things. They are real and they are yours. You can feel abundance with these things alone.

Having an attitude of gratitude places you in a positive state of mind. Having a positive state of mind attracts positive results and boosts confidence in the process.

So the next time you start feeling a lack of money and are experiencing financial hard times, shift your focus onto the already present abundance in your life.

The only true way to eliminate a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit. In this case it is replacing the bad habit of financial worry to a new habit of feeling gratitude for the abundance in your present life.

So what will all this do for my financial status, you may ask? It will put you back on track to an authentic way of thinking that helps erase fear from your state of mind.

One will have to heighten their awareness to monitor any pattern of negative thought. It may take some work and determination but it will be well worth it.

Negative thoughts of lack can be quite stubborn in pointing out what is missing from your life which is why I stress awareness. You may have to step back whenever a shift of lack attempts to rule the mind.

This is a habit so it will take work to replace it. It will take practice, persistence, and determination.

Believe in yourself. You are meant to live a life of abundance. It is your God given born right.
