ASUS outs ET2300 all-in-one desktop with articulating, 23-inch touchscreen, optional Thunderbolt (update: eyes-on!)

ASUS outs ET2300 all-in-one desktop with articulating, 23-inch touchscreen, optional Thunderbolt

If you're a PC maker launching a new lineup of Windows 8 devices, you're going to look awfully square if you don't have at least one touch-enabled all-in-one to show off. Clearly, ASUS got the memo. Here at a press event in New York City, the company announced the ET2300, a 23-inch desktop whose display can be pushed down to lie basically flat -- a pretty ubiquitous form factor these days. Starting with that IPS screen, it has 1080p resolution and promises horizontal viewing angles of 178 degrees. Under the hood, it runs your choice of Core i3, i5 or i7 processor, with either integrated Intel graphics or NVIDIA's GT 630M GPU. (Even then, you can choose between one and two gigs of dedicated video memory.) Other specs include up to 8GB of RAM, up to 2TB in HDD storage, a slot-loading DVD drive, Intel Wireless Display and optional Thunderbolt connectivity. Additionally, like ASUS' other products (even its tablets and phones), it makes use of SonicMaster's audio technology. We haven't heard anything regarding pricing or availability just yet, but we'll update this post if we do.

New York court date in Lindsay Lohan car accident case cancelled

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Embattled actress Lindsay Lohan appears to be off the hook after being arrested for leaving the scene of an accident last month when her Porsche allegedly clipped a pedestrian in an alley behind an upscale Manhattan hotel.

New York prosecutors said Lohan's scheduled court appearance on Tuesday had been canceled. No future court date was scheduled, an indication the district attorney has decided not to move forward with the case.

"Apparently prosecutors agreed that there wasn't enough to proceed." said Lohan's spokesman, Steve Honig. "This turned out to be nothing just like we said from the very beginning."

The 26-year-old actress, who has been in and out of court, rehab and prison since a 2007 drunk driving arrest in Los Angeles, was charged on September 19 with a misdemeanor after a man said he had been hit by the actress' car behind the Dream hotel.

Police issued Lohan a ticket with a court date of October 23.

A spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney's office declined to comment on why the case against the "Mean Girls" actress was not moving ahead.

A week after the incident in New York, Lohan reportedly got into a public spat with a man who she said refused to delete pictures he had taken of her from his phone. She claimed the man assaulted her, but charges were later dropped.

Earlier this month, police on Long Island responded to an early-morning 911 call about a verbal dispute involving Lohan and her mother, Dina, but made no arrests, a spokeswoman for the Nassau County police said.

Lohan remains on probation in California until 2014 in connection with a jewelry theft case.

Readtime Queues Up Stories to Read Based On How Much Time You Have [IPhone Downloads]

Readtime Queues Up Stories to Read Based On How Much Time You HaveiOS: Readtime is an app that scans the articles you have saved in Readability, analyzes their length, and dishes you stories based on how much time you have available to read them.

Readtime plugs directly into Readability (it doesn't have support for Instapaper or Pocket, unfortunately). When you load up the app, you select a duration of time that you have to get some reading done, and Readtime scans your articles and offers something that you'll be able to finish. It's handy when you're waiting in line, on a lunch break, or you just have a few minutes to kill.

riskinfo ? News ? Social Media Wasted Without a Website

Without a working website, social media marketing is a wasted effort, warned internet expert Gihan Perera.

    Gihan Perera

    Gihan Perera

Mr Perera, CEO of First Step Communications, which provides internet marketing systems for small businesses, said while social media offered advisers outstanding opportunities to build brand, demonstrate thought leadership and attract new business, all this activity would be wasted if they did not have their own website.

?People try to jump straight into social media, because it?s fun and sexy and the flavour of the moment,? said Mr Perera. ?But if you don?t have a website and an associated blog and client newsletters that feed into your website, then much of your social media activity will be wasted.?

Speaking at the 2012 Synchron NextGen Conference, held in Cairns last week, Mr Perera said creating an efficient and effective website did not have to be an expensive, complicated exercise.

?For about $8 per month you can have a very professional looking website at a very affordable price.? And the solutions are designed so that you can upgrade to a more sophisticated website if you want to further down the track,? he said.

To demonstrate his point during the conference, Mr Perera helped one Synchron NextGen adviser create a website from scratch in only an hour.

The NextGen Conference, now in its seventh year, has been designed specifically for financial services professionals under the age of 40.? Synchron Director, Don Trapnell, said this year?s event focused exclusively on how to use technology to double business.

?The NextGen Conference aims to provide pragmatic, hands-on training which is really relevant and usable for young financial services professionals be they advisers, sales executives or students,? Mr Trapnell said. ?As well as learning how to create websites, delegates also learned how to market online, how to build a personal brand, how to run online seminars and webinars and how to build their online community.?

    Home-Schooling, Comic Con Style (Part 1) - NYTimes.com

Ask your average Comic Con vendor if he?s got any educational titles, and prepare to be met with the rather-too-swift assertion that his cyborg-superheroes and rotting zombies ?promote literacy.? Mmm. Actually, what my 12-year-old home-schooled son and I were in the market for was something closer to the ?Epic Battles of the Civil War? series we picked up at the New York Historical Society. I was surprised to learn it was published by Marvel Entertainment, something that failed to spark any recognition or even interest in those working Marvel?s huge Javits Center booth last Sunday. In their defense, it was the final day of a well-attended convention, and the cacophony of the surrounding video game demo stations rivaled that of the Kid?s Day throng. Surely that?s why they treated me like the nun who blundered into a porn shop, in search of Holy Host. I mean, it?s not as if? I was wearing a nun costume ? or any costume, for that matter.

I acknowledge that the Comic Con exists primarily to make a fortune off the hard-core adult comics fans who are only too happy to pay top dollar for the opportunity to dress up and get their photo taken with such celebrities as Vic ?Mini Me? Troyer and Miss August, but with persistence and patience, we managed to truffle up a couple of armloads of curriculum-worthy materials, along with a Minecraft pickaxe. Here?s what we found ? all perfect for sparking up any subject with a little graphic style.

    HISTORY
    ?Gettysburg? by C. M. Butzer
The grody ?Walking Dead? images abounding at this year?s Con have nothing on the amputated limbs piling up in this primary-sourced retelling of the Civil War?s bloodiest battle. The author, whose self-published mini comic on John Brown attracted the attention of HarperCollins, takes the story up through Lincoln?s famous speech at the newly constructed memorial, then supplies fascinating and painstaking notes on his historical research.

    ?Northwest Passage? by Scott Chantler
I confess, I hated history as a girl. Except for the plight of the slaves, dramatized in such television events as ?Roots? and ?The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman,?? it was all just humdrum memorization of dates and names. ?Northwest Passage? is history as wilderness adventure, complete with hangings, snares and barrel-chested dudes sporting buckskin and well-fitting breeches.

?Marathon? by Boaz Yakin and Joe Infurnari
Ancient history with a side of sports ? there are swords, shields and bulging muscles aplenty in this drama- in-real-life take on Eucles, an Athenian messenger who?s said to have run 306 miles round trip from Athens to Sparta in 108-degree heat , thus preserving Greek civilization, and by extension, the Olympics. Sounds like someone was bucking for the ancient Greek Good Citizenship award.

?The Silence of Our Friends? by Mark Long, Jim Demonakos, and Nate Powell
Rocketing ahead to the not-so-distant past, which is to say my own lifetime, we have a civil rights-era tale based on one creator?s actual experience in suburban Houston. The complexities of race relations are given their due as the authors consider the impact a false accusation has on both a black family and a white family. Timely reading indeed.

    SCIENCE
    ?Caroline?s Catalog? by E. J. Barnes
The most outwardly humble item in our haul, E. J. Barnes?s self-produced bio-comic of the 18th-century astronomer (and musician) Caroline Herschel, is also one of the most exciting from a Women?s Studies standpoint. Girl power.

The Beware? series by the Perkins Brothers
Remember Scooby Doo? Imagine if rather than unmasking the town crank, the gang had found solid scientific explanations for every mysterious curse and haunting they investigated.

?Xoc: The Journey of a Great White? by Matt Dembicki

Beautifully rendered in predominant blues, grays and an occasional necessary red, Xoc follows a 17-foot great white shark as she makes her way from coastal California to Hawaii. (Jealous.) She and her turtle sidekick are occasionally shown conversing in English, but otherwise the science seems solid, and the characters never come off as cuddly or anthropomorphized. The boy sums it up as ?Man vs. the Wild, but with a shark.?

?First in Space? by James Vining
A few years ago, I managed to traumatize the boy with Laika, a graphic account of the doomed Soviet space dog?s orbit around earth. Ham, a NASA- trained chimpanzee in the Air Force?s Mercury Program has a much happier ending, thank God.

    LITERATURE

?Kill Shakespeare? by Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery
Our home library is already groaning under the weight of Shakespeare comic-format adaptations, but who can say no to a luridly bloody reinvention whereby Hamlet, Juliet, Othello, Falstaff, Romeo and Puck must battle against the dark forces of Richard III, Lady Macbeth and Iago? A heaping helping of agggghs, thwoks and plucked-out eyes (okay, just two) spice up the thous and thines.

    One Peace Manga Classic Readers
Not to be confused with the wildly popular One Piece manga, these titles, including ?Don Quixote? and ?The War of the Worlds? are translations of Japanese adaptations. The editor? Robert McGuire thinks of them as gateway drugs. Barreling through Moby-Dick, my son was struck by Mr. Stubbs?s? explanation to Ishmael, ?You don?t laugh ?cuz it?s fun to! Things are fun because you?re laughing.? If Melville isn?t spinning in the grave yet, wait until he hears Milo?s verdict that ?it doesn?t need to be as long as the real Moby- Dick is because a picture says 1,000 words.? Tis the price of lasting celebrity in the age of PlayStation and YouTube.

    ?The Odyssey? by Sam Ita
The Odyssey in Pop Up form. I don?t want to give too much away, so just two little words for you, my friend: Polyphemus? Eye.

Class dismissed. We?ll pick up tomorrow with our Comic Con haul as pertains to Social Studies, the Arts, Language Instruction and Continuing Education.

Why Wheat Could Be Sabotaging Your Weight Loss

    bread

You want to lose weight, but you can?t shed more than 5 lbs no matter how hard you try. You workout on the treadmill religiously, but you still have a gut that won?t budge. You are eating the way your nutritionist tells you to, but you still feel like crap.

Does this story sound familiar? You are not alone.

Dieters who consult with traditional dietitians have heard it all before: eat plenty of healthy whole grains, drink 64 oz. of water a day, and cut down on saturated fat. The problem with this approach is that most people who follow this approach continue to struggle with weight, and become yo-yo dieters.

The USDA is affiliated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the governing body of nationally recognized nutrition professionals. The Academy continues to push the whole grain dogma in its official literature and certification programs. The USDA also happens to be the governing body of the national agricultural industry. Considering that fact that wheat, soy, and corn make up the majority of the United States? agricultural production, you?ll never find any official U.S. organization recommending that you eliminate these foods to be healthier. Since registered dietitians are licensed by the government, they follow the USDA guidelines.

If you are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired after sticking to the traditional USDA nutrition guidelines, the time has come for you to listen to your body and not the government.

The first thing that you should do if you can?t lose weight is to eliminate wheat from your diet. You need to make nutrition choices based on how your own body responds. While going gluten-free is the biggest trend in nutrition right now, it?s not just gluten (a protein found in wheat) that causes inflammation and digestive issues.

There are other reasons why wheat can sabotage your weight loss:

    Wheat is addictive.

According to Dr. Mark Hyman, wheat is ?a super drug that makes you crazy, hungry and addicted?. To process wheat, your digestive system breaks wheat down into polypeptides called exorphins. Exorphins bind to opioid receptors in the brain, making you feel the same kind of high that your feel after you go running or after you use heroin. That?s why you feel so awesome after digging into a giant bowl of whole wheat pasta. This feeling makes you want to eat more and more. Over time, this prevents weight loss, no matter how hard you work out.

Wheat is a filler in junk foods.

Wheat is hidden as a cheap filler in many junk foods. Taco Bell taco ?meat? for example, was found last year to only contain 35% beef. The rest is fillers and flavorings, including wheat. Wheat is also used as a filler in sauces and marinades, and as a thickener in soups. Think that chicken nuggets are mostly made of chicken? Think again. Wheat is a binder and thickener in processed chicken strips. Most pastries and baked goods contain wheat unless they are specialty gluten-free and wheat-free items. Wheat is added to so many boxed foods, that you need to choose whole food ingredients and make food yourself to avoid hidden wheat. If you must eat prepared foods, always scan the ingredient labels for hidden wheat.

    Wheat is inflammatory.

Inflammation is caused when your body senses an internal intruder. Your immune system triggers a series of events to fight infections, including the release of white blood cells to ?fight? the intruder. This happens when some people eat wheat. Wheat contains compounds that cause some people to become inflamed as a response to the perceived internal threat. Inflammation can cause your body to hold onto excess water weight. This is why many people wake up feeling puffy and bloated after a night of indulging in pasta, beer, breads, and pastry desserts.

Wheat raises your blood sugar faster than table sugar.

Dr. William Davis, author of the book Wheat Belly, has found that eating whole wheat bread raises blood sugar higher than eating a Snickers candy bar. When your blood sugar skyrockets, your body releases the fat storage hormone insulin. This prevents you from losing fat, because you are in a constant battle to burn it off at the gym while your body is busy storing it.

Going gluten-free is not good enough for people like you who want to lose fat and keep it off. You have to eliminate wheat from your diet for good if you want to geel great and break your cycle of self-sabotage.

Iran says EU moves will not force it into nuclear talks

DUBAI (Reuters) - Tough new European Union sanctions on Iran will not force Tehran back into negotiations with world powers over its nuclear programme, Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"We think the error in calculation which these countries are pursuing will distance them from a favorable result," ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told a news conference.

"We recommend that, instead of taking the wrong approach and being stubborn and using pressure, ... with a logical approach they can return to discussions."

The European Union agreed further sanctions against Iran's banking, shipping, and industrial sectors on Monday in the hope of drawing it into serious negotiations on its nuclear programme.

The EU decision reflected mounting concerns over Iran's nuclear programme, which the West suspects is aimed at giving Iran the potential to build a nuclear bomb, and over Israeli threats to attack Iranian atomic installations if sanctions and diplomacy fail to lead to a peaceful solution.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said on Monday that she hoped turning up the heat on the Islamic Republic would persuade it to make concessions and that negotiations could resume "very soon".

But Mehmanparast rejected that possibility, saying "illogical" and "inhumane" sanctions would only make Iran more determined in its stance. Iran insists it has the right to enrich uranium for power generation or medical purposes, and says its programme has no military purpose.

"They don't know the spirit of the Iranian nation," Mehmanparast said. "These steps are mistakes and will have no results for them."

Britain nixes extradition of NASA hacker Gary McKinnon to US

Gary McKinnon, a British citizen, is accused of breaking into nearly 100 US military and NASA computers, looking for photos of UFOs.

The British government today announced that Gary McKinnon, a British hacker diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, will not be extradited to the US. But while the decision is nominally about his human rights, it may also be a byproduct of a long-standing debate over the US-UK extradition treaty, which British critics say is weighted too much in favor of US interests.

British Home Secretary Theresa May today told the House of Commons that she had withdrawn the extradition order against Mr. McKinnon after determining that extraditing him would violate his human rights, BBC News reports.

Mr McKinnon is accused of serious crimes. But there is also no doubt that he is seriously ill. He has Asperger's syndrome, and suffers from depressive illness. The legal question before me is now whether the extent of that illness is sufficient to preclude extradition.

After careful consideration of all of the relevant material, I have concluded that Mr McKinnon's extradition would give rise to such a high risk of him ending his life that a decision to extradite would be incompatible with Mr McKinnon's human rights.

Ms. May said that it would now be up to the director of public prosecutions to determine whether McKinnon would face charges in Britain.

McKinnon is accused of breaking into nearly 100 NASA and US military computers between 2001 and 2002, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, and is charged in Virginia and New Jersey on eight counts of computer fraud. Lawyers for McKinnon, who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and clinical depression, said that he was merely looking for evidence of UFOs and did not have any criminal intent. The Daily Telegraph reported in 2009 that McKinnon's supporters say he is being made a scapegoat for US failures to secure its computers, which McKinnon has called "ridiculously easy" to hack.

US lawyer David Rivkin, an adviser to the Reagan and Bush administrations, told the BBC that the decision to deny extradition for McKinnon?on health grounds was "laughable" and that "under that logic, anybody who claims some kind of physical or mental problem can commit crimes with impunity and get away with it." British solicitor Edward Fitzgerald told The Guardian that he felt McKinnon's case turned on his alleged high suicide risk.

While May said in her statement that the "sole issue" before her was McKinnon's human rights, her decision not to extradite McKinnon comes amid public debate in Britain over the country's extradition responsibilities, particularly those in its treaty with the US.

Critics say that the US-UK treaty, enacted in 2003, is favors of US interests over British ones. The Guardian's Owen Bowcott points out that between Jan. 2004 and Oct. 2012, 92 people have been extradited from Britain to the US, while only 43 have made the opposite trip. He also notes, however, that between Jan. 2004 and Dec. 2011, the UK made 57 requests for extradition and 40 extraditions took place, while the US made 134 requests during that same period, and only 75 extraditions occurred.

In announcing her decision on McKinnon, May called the US-UK treaty "broadly sound," reports The Guardian.? But May added that she would introduce a new "forum bar" to the extradition process, which would allow a court to deny extradition if it deemed a British trial more fair to the accused than a trial overseas, reports The Guardian. May also said that she planned to end the home secretary's ability to deny extradition on human rights grounds ? the very grounds she used to bar McKinnon's extradition ? arguing that such discretion would be better placed in the courts than in the government's hands.?

May's proposed reforms to the US extradition process are just part of a broader overhaul by the British government to its approach to international justice. The Washington Post reports that May also announced that Britain would be?opting out of more than 100 criminal justice measures?with the EU and reinstating selected measures. The Post writes that the move "appeared aimed at satisfying Conservative lawmakers who have grown increasingly skeptical of the E.U.?s reach in British affairs."

Federal Appeals Court Hears Challenge to Marijuana's Legal Status ...

Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit heard oral arguments in a case challenging the Drug Enforcement Administration's refusal to reclassify marijuana so it can be legally used as a medicine. Since 1970, when Congress passed the Controlled Substances Act, marijuana has remained on Schedule I, a category supposedly reserved for drugs with a high abuse potential and no accepted medical value that cannot be used safely even under a doctor's supervision. The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) first challenged marijuana's legal status in 1972, eventually winning the support of an administrative law judge, Francis Young, who in 1991 declared?it "abundantly clear"?that the drug has "a currently accepted medical use."?Young, who called marijuana "one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man," was overruled by DEA Administrator John Lawn. In 1995 former NORML Executive Director Jon Gettman filed a second rescheduling petition, focusing on marijuana's abuse potential, which the DEA rejected in 2001. The latest petition, filed a year later by a coalition of activists, cited state laws allowing patients to use marijuana as well as recent research confirming its therapeutic value. As usual, the DEA dragged its feet, finally rejecting the petition last year. Now Americans for Safe Access is appealing that decision.

This is the first time in nearly two decades that a federal appeals court has heard arguments about marijuana's Schedule I status, which a group of researchers at the University of California Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research politely called "untenable" in a recent review of the literature. Perhaps more than any other policy, the Obama administration's continued defense of this classification, which puts marijuana in a more restrictive category than cocaine, morphine, or methamphetamine, belies the president's avowed commitment to sound, unpoliticized science. California NORML coordinator Dale Gieringer notes that the DEA "summarily discounted substantial scientific evidence showing that cannabis has medical efficacy." He says the agency insists that "only expensive, 'Phase 3' FDA efficacy studies are acceptable, while at the same making such studies impossible by blocking approval of the necessary research facilities." Although other Schedule I drugs are produced by private, DEA-licensed labs, when it comes to marijuana the agency has refused to allow competition with the National Institute on Drug Abuse, researchers' only legal source of the drug. That policy is also the target of federal litigation. ?

5 Ways the Gift of Listening Will Benefit Your Relationship | Black ...

    Marriage

    by BMWK Staff ?|? on October 15th, 2012 ?|?

As a seasoned clinical psychotherapist, I am blessed with a wonderful opportunity to listen to people share their joy, sorrow, pain and happiness. Over the past two years alone, I have had 1,980 client encounters and have spent over 300 hours listening to family and friends bear their hearts and souls. Within the past fifteen years, I have listened to over 20,000 people from various parts of the world.

On a regular basis I am asked, ?Why do?you believe that you are blessed because you listen to others complain about their relationships, personal issues and life challenges??

After many years of engaging in self-reflection and prayer, I have come to realize that I am blessed because God has bestowed upon me one of the most rewarding, but challenging gifts known to mankind?the divine gift of listening. In my personal opinion, I believe that time spent listening to others is time well spent. Through active listening, I assist God in blessing others by promoting and contributing to their happiness, well-being and prosperity. In sum, I am blessed because I am using my divine gift of listening to advance His kingdom.

Listening is not only a personal blessing, but it is an essential communication skill that has many benefits. From my professional assessment, I have found that listening provides the following five benefits:

    1. Listening Promotes On-going Communication.?Listening opens up the door for on-going dialogue. Throughout the years, I have learned that individuals are more likely to engage in on-going dialogue if they feel that they will be afforded equal opportunity to be heard and understood. I have also learned that the quickest way to end a conversation is to talk more than I listen.

    2. Listening Promotes Acceptance.?Individuals feel loved and accepted when others listen to them. Listening demonstrates genuine concern and interest. In the midst of life challenges, everyone needs someone who will listen to them.?Feeling accepted is a by-product of being listened to and understood, not chastised or judged.

    3. Listening Promotes Obedience. According to the book of James 1:19-20, we are instructed to be quick to listen with our two ears and slow to speak with our one mouth. God instructs us to listen to others so that we can carefully assess their need and direct them in the right direction for help. God listens to us and instructs us to do the same so that we can be hearing aids for others. There is nothing more comforting to a person in distress than a person with a listening and nurturing heart.

    4. Listening Promotes Harmony. Listening to others sets the platform for developing mutual respect, trust and understanding, which are essential ingredients for creating harmonious relationships. Also, listening enables both individuals to be heard, thus contributing to increased opportunities for successful conflict resolution.

    5. Listening Promotes Personal Growth.?Prior to understanding and embracing the power of listening, I was a selfish individual who expected to be heard, respected and understood, but put forth very little effort to hear, respect and understand others. Like most individuals, I often put my needs before the needs of others. However, through active listening, I have developed the ability to hear and relate to others. This in return has led me to become a more compassionate individual. And as a result of listening to thousands of people, I have grown in ways that I would have never imaged. I now know how to hear different viewpoints and I have found balance in speaking my mind and listening with my heart.

Listening is a fundamental part of my life and should be a part of yours as well. Remember that healthy relationships are developed and sustained based on individuals? ability to hear others. I highly recommend that you listen to others with a desire to understand them and not criticize them. Listen more and talk less and see how your relationships change for the better. Listening breathes life into people and relationships.

Is the Silva-Bonnar fun fight enough reason to buy UFC 153?

Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White called the hastily thrown-together bout between Stephan Bonnar and UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva a fun fight.

Asked earlier this month in Nottingham, England, if those ripping the matchup should relax a bit, White said certainly.

"You're absolutely, 100 percent right (that it's OK to have fun fights sometimes)," White told MMAjunkie.com. "The fact that the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world steps up and says, 'Somebody's hurt? I'm in'? Second time he's done it, too ??he came in late after i'd already canceled the Jones fight. It's weird (fans are down on it)."

I like fun fights. Who doesn't like a fight that just exists for entertainment? But when you're talking about the pound-for-pound king who is 37 years old, you have to consider how many fights he has left in him. Is a fun fight at a bigger weight class the best way to use him?

Another problem is with putting a fun fight as the main event of a pay-per-view. $54.95 is a lot of money to spend to watch the world's best fighter go against someone who is not considered a challenge, by oddsmakers or anyone else in the sport.

Yes, Silva saved UFC 153 from going down in flames like UFC 151 before it, but White shouldn't be surprised when people aren't over the moon about a "fun fight."

    Everson Griffen, Matthew StaffordAP

Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen will be away from the team, after the sudden and unexpected death of his mother on Wednesday.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Griffen?s mother was visiting her son in the Twin Cities when she died. The cause is not yet known. The Vikings were in meetings when Eden Prairie contacted the Vikings, and broke the news to Griffen.

?As you can imagine, it was tough,? Frazier said, via Judd Zulgad of 1500ESPN.com. ?There was nothing that could have prepared him for that news. He wasn?t here [Thursday]. I?m not sure what his status will be going forward.

?Our prayers as an organization, as well as his teammates, are with him and his family. This is a difficult time for him, as you can imagine, and we?ll be there to support him as best we can. . . . He loved his mom, like we all do. And to have no clue that something like this was on the horizon it was tough. It?s still tough, obviously.?

Griffen is tied for the team lead with three sacks, but has impressed the Vikings with his maturity after some off-field issues after his rookie season.

?Everson means a lot to me, like all our guys do, and I?ve seen the maturation in his life,? Frazier said. ?I told him that [Wednesday] night. I know his mom would be so proud of how he has grown up and become a young man that has made her very proud. It?s hard to see him hurting. I lost my mother not long ago, I know what that experience is like, and it?s hard. It?s hard.?

Frazier said he didn?t know when Griffen would rejoin the team, leaving that up to him.

?It?s purely up to him when,? Frazier said. ?There?s no timetable. I explained that to him,? Frazier said. ?He needs to go through the grieving process properly and don?t be thinking about football. Just doing whatever he needs to do away from football. His mom was very, very close to him. This is going to be a tough deal for him.?

Our thoughts are with Griffen and his entire family.

RolePlayGateway is a site built by a couple roleplayers who wanted to give a little something back to the roleplay community. The site has no intention of earning any profit, and is paid for out of their own pockets.

If you appreciate what they do, feel free to donate your spare change to help feed them on the weekends. After selecting the amount you want to donate from the menu, you can continue by clicking on PayPal logo.
